Mass Bay Girls Lacrosse League (MBGLL) is a recreation program located in Eastern Massachusetts. We organize and operate a program for more than 8,000 young girls' lacrosse players. In 2014 we will have 86 different towns represented with over 400 teams in 1st through 8th grade. MBGLL started the MBGLL Select League during the 2010-2011 season to offer U13 and U15 players the opportunity to compete at a higher level of competition on their town's team. Our mission is to promote girls' youth lacrosse in an environment that emphasizes fun, while developing skills, teamwork, good sportsmanship, and integrity.
Hello everyone. This is a quick reminder that we are still accepting teams for next Sunday's Charlestown Play Date which will take place on March 16th in the afternoon. This event is open to U13 and U15 teams. Space is limited so please register asap. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to get your team playing together pre-season and it is also an invaluable experience for new officials. Registration for the play date will close tomorrow, March 10th so please sign up today. Thank you.
Hello. I want to remind you about two other open registrations.
MBGLL’s Select league was created as an extension of our recreational league in response to member town’s requests. This league is for the more advanced players who want to compete with their town teammates at a higher level without the pressure and financial commitment that are typically found on club teams.
We hear feedback that young athletes who have participated in MBGLL greatly value what the league offers. They leave saying that their best experiences were playing lacrosse without all of the pressure that they feel in other sports. Our objective is to continue to balance nurturing the player's ‘love of the game’ with the sport's growing popularity while meeting the needs of our member towns. Teams receive a 6 game schedule.
Registration closes on March 5 for check payments. Registration will accept credit card payments through April 4.
Please support this league and enter your team today.
Charlestown Play Date
The Charlestown Play Date, scheduled for Sunday, March 16, is a terrific opportunity for teams to offer their players an opportunity to play pre-season. Teams will receive three or four 23-25 minute games (scheduled relatively close together), which is perfect for the girls to dust off the cobwebs and get excited for the upcoming season. This is also a valued training opportunity for officials who are mentored throughout the day. Because there are two fields, we are only able to accommodate 20 teams on a first come, first served basis. Right now we are accepting U15 team registrations. On March 5 I will open registration up to accommodate U13 teams. MBGLL is offering this bonus playing opportunity as a benefit to our member towns and there is no charge for registration. Register at www.mbgll.org under team registrations or click here.

Upcoming Coaches’ Training
MBGLL invests heavily in providing coaches in our league with training opportunities. If we have highly knowledgeable and skilled coaches, our players will play lacrosse for the love of the game. Please support these upcoming training sessions and know that many of them sell out. It is mandatory that every coach attend a Rules Clinic and/or Rules Q. and A. session annually. Charlestown Play Date
The Charlestown Play Date is a terrific opportunity for your teams to play together pre-season, on beautiful turf fields. You can get your players out on the field to kick off the off-season cobwebs from their sticks and to start working together as a team. And, you frequently will play teams that you won’t meet in the regular season. Games last approximately 23 minutes and you will play 3-4 games over the course of the day.
This event is also an essential training tool for our umpires, as they use this day to mentor newer officials and to review the 2014 rules in action. Because we are using this as a training opportunity for both teams and officials, MBGLL is offering this event to teams free of charge. Last year the event sold out so register early to ensure your place. Register on mbgll.org or click here.
As you all know, it is required that every town volunteer for one job (and actively participate) in the league. There are still a few towns that have not yet volunteered. If you are one of them, please contact your division director. MBGLL is going to begin to place those towns in violation of this requirement on a warning status. Registration is still open for MBGLL Select teams. MBGLL will accept check payments until March 5 and credit card payments through April 4. The MBGLL Select program is a terrific way for your town to offer the better players an opportunity to play at a higher skill level. These teams are stacked, (we suggest you hold try-outs) and home games are scheduled on either Friday nights or Saturday afternoons, depending upon your preference. Towns may combine with neighboring towns to make up a team. All players on a MBGLL Select team must continue to play in their town’s recreational league in order to help raise the level and leadership on those teams. Register on mbgll.org or click here.
Thank you all for supporting MBGLL! We are looking forward to a fantastic season.
As you may know,as of January 1, 2014, ALL lacrosse balls used for play MUST have the NOCSAE seal on the ball (it must say “meets NOCSAE standard” on the ball).
NOCSAE is the National Operating Committee on Standards for Athletic Equipment, who commissions research in sports medicine & science and establishes standards for athletic equipment. To read more about the rule change, please read the article, What’s in a Ball? which originally appeared in Lacrosse Magazine in January 2013.
This rule was inserted into the US Lacrosse rulebook last year.
This is a rule change for the boys and girls game. Manufacturers are making these balls but they have not hit the shelves of retailers to date. It will be beneficial to order now from your local retailer to be placed on a list and not wait for the spring, when quantities could become limited. Officials will be reminded that only balls with the NOCSAE seal will be allowed for play and we don’t want games canceled or postponed because of this change.
